How to use Digital Signature (DSC) for e-filing of ITR, Downloads - e-Filing Home Page, Income Tax Department

Step 1 Logon to 'e-Filing' Portal www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
Step 2 Go to the 'Profile Setting' menu located at the upper-right side of the page ⇒ Click 'Register Digital Signature Certificate' ⇒ Click 'Click here to download the DSC Utility'
Step 3 Extract the downloaded DSC Utility ⇒ Open the Executable Jar File (DSC Utility) ⇒ Read the instructions carefully.
Step 4 In the DSC Management Utility, go to 'Register/Reset Password using DSC' tab ⇒ Enter 'Enter e-Filing User ID*', 'Enter PAN of the DSC*' ⇒ Select the type of 'Digital Signature Certificate' (DSC)
Step 5 DSC using .pfx file:

1. Select the Type of DSC .pfx file
2. Browse and attach the Keystore file (.pfx File)
3. Enter the password for your private key
4. Click 'Generate Signature file'
DSC using USB token:

1. Select the Type of DSC (.pfx file or USB token) USB Token
2. Select USB Token Certificate ⇒ Click 'Generate Signature File'3.

1. What is the DSC specification for e-Filing?

Answer: DSC should be of Class II or III only issued by CCA approved certifying agencies in India. Please refer www.cca.gov.in for the list of licensed DSC providers. User must have a valid DSC that is the validity period of DSC should not be expired. The e-Vault facility is to prevent the account anyone from logging in even if you have shared the username and password. Therefore, user can use high security login option using Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) to prevent from unauthorised access and can maintain the confidentiality of the information. • Lock Reset Password

Password ensures the security and confidentiality of the data. Password is the main defense against hackers. However, the best password is one that user can remember easily without prompting. Thus to protect the account from hackers, user can reset their password using the option Digital Signature Certificate (DSC). So that in future if user forgets the password, they can reset the password using the DSC.

3. While registering my DSC, an error appears on the screen as "The Digital Signature Certificate is already registered". What should I do? Answer: A DSC cannot be registered by multiple users. When this error appears, it maybe that the DSC you are trying to register belongs to someone else. Please make sure that the DSC you are registering belongs to you and has your PAN encrypted. The only exception for this rule is that an authorized signatory (principal contact) for an organization should register his/her own DSC to e-File for the organization. The same DSC can be used for personal e-Filing too.

4. While registering my DSC, an error appears on the screen as "The PAN mentioned in the Digital Signature Certificate does not match. Please retry.". What should I do? Answer: The PAN in the Digital Signature Certificate does not match with your registered PAN. You should contact the Certificate Provider and get the PAN in your Digital Signature Certificate checked.

5. While registering my DSC, an error appears on the screen as "Validity of the Digital Signature Certificate has expired. Please update a valid Digital Signature Certificate". What should I do?
Answer: The validity period of the Digital Signature Certificate has ended. Attain a new Digital Signature Certificate from the Certified Service Providers and then register.
